Harringworth Viaduct
Without doubt the the biggest piece of work needed when the line was made from Kettering to Manton junction near Oakham was the Harringworth Viaduct. This is one of the longest masonry viaducts in the UK. Harringworth Viaduct some times called Seaton Viaduct or even the Welland Viaduct. The viaduct has 82 arches each of which has a 40ft span. It is 1,275 yards long.
Harringworth Viaduct was built between 1877 and 1899 by the Midland Railway and needed over 20 million bricks in its construction.
Harringworth Viaduct crosses the valley of the River Welland between the village of Harringworth which is in Northamptonshire and the village Seaton which had a railway station but not on this railway line, is in Rutland.
